Udgir And Ausa Forts

Date : 9-December-2018

Location: Lataur

Udgir :- Udgir city is known for a well built fort of pre-Bahamani age, dating from the twelfth century CE. It is believed  that the Fort is built in about 800 years back. There are many old military observation points, and rest houses scattered over the surrounding hills, all built from an unusual white clay. However, all have long since fallen into ruin.

It is believed that the Udgir fort has a direct deep underground soorang (tunnel) connection with Bhalki & Bidar Forts.

Ausa :- The fort is situated in a depression surrounded by high ground on all the sides so that from its highest point one can have a view of the approaching armies even at a great distance while the main parts of the fort remain hidden from the latter. Almost square in shape, the fort has a moat or khandak (ditch) around. Fort has a glaces, a retaining wall, a covered way, a double rampart fortified further with massive bastions, which are mostly semi-circular mounted with huge cannons. Some of these guns bear the names of Turkish engineers in service under Adil Sahi and Nizam Sahi kings.
