Location: Amaravati

Melghat means meeting place of the ghats which is just what the area is. It lies at the northern extreme of the Amravati District on the border of Madhya Pradesh, in the southwestern Satpura mountain ranges. If its tigers were not so famous, Melghat might best be known as a 'raptor' or eagle sanctuary!!!

Melghat was declared a tiger reserve and was among the first nine tiger reserves notified in 1973-74 under the Project Tiger. This Tiger Reserve is spread over 3600 sq km encompassing the Gugamal National Park, Melghat Wildlife Sanctuary and neighboring rich deciduous Reserve Forests.

The main fauna found here are Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, Sloth bear, Dhole, Indian Jackal, Sambar, Gaur, Barking deer, Nilgai, Chital, Chausingha, Ratel, Flying Squirrel, Wild boar, Langur, Monkey, Porcupine, Pangolin, Mouse deer, Python, Otter and Blacknaped hare

Chikhaldara is a hill station in Amravati district. Featured in the epic of the Mahabharata, this is the place where Bheema  killed Keechaka in a herculean bout and then threw him into the valley. It thus came to be known as Keechakadara—Chikhaldara is its corruption.

It is situated at an altitude of 1118 m with highest vairat point 1188m and is being the only coffee-growing area in Maharashtra. The scenic beauty of Chikhaldara can be enjoyed from Hurricane Point, Prospect Point, and Devi Point. Other interesting excursions include Gavilgad and Narnala Fort, Botanical Garden, Tribal Museum and the Semadoh Lake.
